Chapter 18

I hug Val and stand up to saunter out of the bathroom. When I leave I am greeted with three worried faces, a grinning Tammy and a Carol on my pillow.

“So, um, I am really sorry for that Cam,” I say sheepishly and cross my arms over my stomach.

“No worries. But how did you do that?” Cam tilts his head in question. Before I could- not answer because who the frick knows- there is a banging from the next room.

“What’s that?” I ask.

“Someone is knocking on the suite door. I’ll get it.” Shane walks out of the bedroom and closes the door behind him. We can hear him talking gruffly with another man and we all share worried looks. After a few moments the stranger bursts through the bedroom door. It was the photographer I had met at my house.

“You!” He points his finger right at me. Tammy and Tim both shift to block me. Tim with all the grace of a baby cow and Tammy with the grace of a ninja. I can see between them where their shoulders meet. “You! How did you do that? We felt it in the White room. There has not been a surge like this for a long time. Explain, now.”

“Hey, Colwyn. Back off. She has not been well.” Tim is shuddering in place as he grits his teeth audibly. I can see his jaw working and neck muscles stiffen. “Explain it. Or I will remove her to the medical ward.”

This Colwyn guy is quickly becoming average in my eyes. Being overbearing, gruff and scary-ass-mother-trucker are not attractive qualities. Unless one is a Vampire. Tim and Tammy are still playing bodyguard when I point my arms to dive through them gently.

“Hello. I am not sure what happened myself yet. Shane and the gang were looking after me. And what do you mean you felt it? I just fell. And what is the White room?” I was channelling Tammy, rambling and panicking seems to go hand in hand for both of us.

Tammy reaches out and takes my hand, drawing herself up until she is next to me again. Tim did the same on my other side and slips his arm around my waist for good measure. “You fell?” Colwyn looks sceptical and raises an eyebrow.

“Isn’t that why you are here?” I ask.

“No. You discharged light energy. Enough that the other high-level wielders felt it, including myself. I want to know everything that has happened today.” It is not a request. It is an order.

Shane jumps in and runs through our afternoon.

“Kat and her friends went to lunch after seeing the Dean. I was coming back to the dorms when I saw her freeze up and fall. She was unconscious, so Chitim and myself carried her into her room. She woke after forty-five minutes and then showered. She felt overwhelmed and somehow electrocuted Cam when he touched her.” I remember most of it luckily. The walk from the cafeteria was great; it is a beautiful campus.
